Secondary Glazing is the ideal solution for reducing noise through your original windows. We have been dealing with this problem in and around the london area for 30 years. In that time we have come across every style of window and been able to install secondary glazing.
There are a number of things we can do to reduce the noise but the most tried and tested way is to use 6.4mm stadip silence glass inside one of our secondary glazing frames with a cavity of between 100mm - 200mm. With this in place we can reduce the noise through your windows by 80%.
The difference between the 6.4mm laminate glass and the 6.4mm stadip silence glass in terms of noise reduction is around 15% which is about 1DB.
Here is a diagram of the glass:-

Stadip Silence Glass
Both types of glass consist of two sheets of 3mm glass with a 0.4mm membrane between them the difference is that with the stadip silence glass the membrane is aerated making it dense. Therefore making it ideal for secondary glazing as it still looks like one piece of glass.
This glass does have a very slight green tint to it which can be noticed from the outside but not from the inside.
